Nursery Inspire

Welcome to Nursery's Inspire page. On this page you find all the ICT resources that are used during the Inspire sessions.

Literacy/Maths Inspire - 14th February 2017

The nursery inspire session looked at The Gingerbread Man story, specifically using talk for writing actions for children to retell the story. The children also created their own puppets to go with the story and also played an ICT game to count the number of buttons The Gingerbread Man has.

The Gingerbread Man story, Talk for writing actions and ICT Gingerbread Man game have been added below.

Literacy Inspire - 11th October 2016

The main emphasis of the inspire session was to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills. There are lots of literacy resources below to help the children learn their letters and sounds.

This video will help parents/carers to pronounce the sounds of the letters that are used in school during letters and sounds lessons.

This website is a great introduction to the alphabet.

The first page goes through the whole alphabet pronouncing the letter names.

The second page shows how to write each letter (pencil icon), the letter sound (ear icon) and the letter name sound (speaker icon).

Phase One of Letters and Sounds concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.

Phase 1 is divided into seven aspects. Each aspect contains three strands: Tuning in to sounds (auditory discrimination), Listening and remembering sounds (auditory memory and sequencing) and Talking about sounds (developing vocabulary and language comprehension).

These free online games will be useful for Phase 1 of the Letters and Sounds phonics programme. Most of the games will work well on an interactive whiteboard as well as for individual play on a computer. To play a game, just click the picture and it will open in a new window or tab.

Mr Thorne is a Teacher that has engaging high quality phonics resources on his website.

In this series Mr Thorne goes through the whole alphabet using the help of Geraldine the Giraffe.

This website has digitial phonics flashcards to use with your child. This is perfect for an interactive whiteboard or computer and there are optional picture prompts and articulated phonemes.

When children start to learn the letter sounds in Nursery they start with the s a t p i n letters and sounds.

How to use this website?

1. Select the s a t p i n letters by clicking on them and then click on the tick button.
2. Clicking on the speaker button will speak the letter sound.
3. Clicking on the picture button, will switch to the picture. When you click on the speaker button, the name of the picture will be spoken using the letter sound.

You can use this flash card website as your child gets more confident and starts to learn more letters and sounds.
