Governors
Welcome to the School Governors page. On this page you can find out what School Governors actually do and who the School Governors are.
What do governors do?
- Plan the School's future direction
- Make decisions on the School's budget and staffing
- Make sure the National Curriculum is taught
- Decide how the School can encourage pupil's spiritual, moral and cultural development
- Make sure that the school provides for all its pupils, including those with special educational needs
Would you like to become a Governor at Barford?
Governors are people like you. You don't need special qualifications but you do need to read a fair amount of paper, attend meetings (at least six full meetings per year although there could be more and be expected to serve on one or more committees e.g. finance, staffing etc.) and work as part of a team. Governors generally serve for a four year term. If you are interested then you now have the opportunity to put forward your name for nomination to become a School governor via the School office. The work is voluntary but offers the opportunity to make a real and direct contribution not only to the education system but also to the community.
Contacting the Governors
If you need to contact any of the governors, please put it in writing in an envelope marked Private and Confidential and the name of the Governor clearly marked on the outside and the office will ensure that it is received by the appropriate person.
The constitution of the Governing Body allows for 12 Governors which are made up of;

A message from our Chair of Governors
While school governance is not without its challenges it has also proved to be one of the most rewarding things I have volunteered to undertake. Being a governor has allowed me the opportunity to utilise my skills, knowledge and experience to help make a positive difference to the lives of the children and wider school community at Barford Primary. The educational landscape is changing all the time and now more than ever it is important that governors, school leaders, staff and parents continue to work together to develop a learning environment for our children that is responsive to their needs; provides appropriate support, encouragement, opportunity and challenge; and which equips all our children with the confidence, skills, motivation and aspiration to realise their potential.
