The Big Read BookBench Trail - 14th July 2016

Throughout the Summer Term Barford's Eager Beavers have been decorating one of The Big Read BookBenches, which celebrates Birmingham's creativity as well as the written word.

On Thursday 14th July 2016, Miss Freeman and Karina went to the Birmingham Central Library to see Barford's BookBench in the Children's Library. Photos of the BookBenches can be seen below. There is also a Big Read Trail Map which can be downloaded below, so that you can search for other BookBenches in the Birmingham area.

NOTE: If you look on page 4 of the Big Read Trail Map, you will see Barford's BookBench, 28 - The Wise Old Owl.

Multicultural Assembly Display - 15th June 2016

Multicultural Celebration Assembly - 27th May 2016

This year each class chose a country from a continent. This included finding out facts about their chosen country such as what flag does the country have? And what language(s) do they speak? What kind of food do they eat? etc...

Barford also had some special school workshops for the children leading up the assembly. The School workshops provided children a chance to learn Spoken Word (Poetry), Steel Pans, Africian Drumming and Samba.

Parent and Child Healthy Lifestyle Workshop - 28th April 2016

Year 1 - Year 4 Pupils and their Parents attended a Healthy Lifestyle Workshop run by Mrs Janagal. There were lots of different healthy lifestyle activities for Parents and Pupils to do. The Children and Parents enjoyed the healthy lifestyle activities.

Mrs Janagal would like to thank the Parents for attending the workshop even though the weather was not with us.

The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration - 22nd April 2016

Staff and Pupils all formed the number 90 in the main playground as a tribute to The Queen's 90th Birthday. Happy 90th Birthday Ma'am!

Life Education West Midlands Certificate - 23rd March 2016

Barford took part in the Health Education and Drug Prevention Programmed on 26th January. The pupils learned about the dangers of the different substances and how they effect the body.

The School has been awarded with a certificate from Life Education West Midlands, which can be viewed below.

World Book Day Display - 16th March 2016

During World Book Week the children did some fantastic work based on their year group books. The fantastic work has been put on display in the ICT Suite.

Year 3 Creative Curriculum Exhibition - 16th March 2016

Year 3 showed their work to Parents, Year 4 and Staff from their water topic. There were a lot of activities to do such as designing your own narrow boat. Laptops were also used to show PowerPoint presentations about the canals in the United Kingdom.

Year 1 Creative Curriculum Exhibition - 16th March 2016

Year 1 showed their work to Parents, Year 2 and Staff from their Dinosaur topic. There were a lots of activities to do during the exhibition such as creating your own fossil and digging for fossils. Year 1 work was also on display.

World Book Day Assembly - 4th March 2016

This year's World Book Day Assembly performances were based on "Becky's Books". Becky is Barford's resident artist and has created wonderful paintings of famous books, films and nursery rhymes around the School. So grab some popcorn and enjoy the wonderful performances.

Year 1 Life Long Ago Workshop - 20th January 2016

The children became Paleontologists on an excavation site,  searching for fossils and identifying fossils. Have a look at the photos below to see our young Paleontologists in action.

Food Bank Collection - 7th December 2015

As part of Barford Primary School’s Harvest Assembly, it was decided that the Food Bank collection would take place in December. Parents and Pupils were asked to bring in one or more items of non-perishable food to donate to the Food Bank.

The donated food will go to the Birmingham Central Food Bank where it will be used to help families in need during the Christmas Holidays.

The generosity of Parents and Pupils at Barford Primary School has been overwhelming. Over 200 non perishable items were collected from classes across the school and we would like to say a massive THANK YOU!

A special WELL DONE to 2F, 5B and Reception classes for donating the most food!

Also another big THANK YOU to Mrs Janagal and the School Council for organising the Food Bank Collection.

Remembrance Day - 11th November 2015

The children have been learning about Remembrance Day, as part of the British Values at Barford.

To commemorate Remembrance Day the children have created poppy wreaths for each classroom in the School and each wreath has been placed on the classroom doors. 

A big thank you to the School Council and Mrs Janagal for commemorating Remembrance Day at Barford.

New Play Equipment - 9th October 2015

The school has purchased some brand new play equipment to be used during playtimes and dinner times. The pupils at Barford are enjoying using the play equipment and use the play equipment whenever possible.

The B Word Anti-Bullying Assembly - 7th October 2015

Year 2 - Year 6 children had a special assembly called "The B Word" by Firehorse Productions as part of Barford's Anti-Bullying message. The assembly showed the serious effects of bullying and the consequences of bullying. Other topics covered in the assembly were, What is bullying? Why do people bully? and What can be done about bullying? 

THE B WORD also explored cyber bullying and looked at the concept of being brave and the importance of telling.

At the end of the assembly, the school received an Anti-Bullying certificate.
