English Inspire - 17th September 2014

The ICT Inspire session focused on words that the government would like all pupils to know what they mean by the end of year 6. Pupils can use online dictionaries to find out the definition of words and then see the words used in a sentence. When pupils are reading words and do not understand what the word means then pupils can use online dictionaries. Some words have more than one meaning. E.g. present, present tense, present – as a gift.

The children had to use online dictionaries (See Below) to create their own dictionary using the words below:-

  1. Choose 1 word for each page (6 or 7).
  2. Put the words in alphabetical order.
  3. Look up the word using an online dictionary.
  4. Write a definition of the word and put it into a sentence.
  5. Add a picture to match.

Words: Sufficient, rhythm, prejudice, accompany, controversy, interfere, community, occupy, guarantee, existence, desperate, profession, persuade, equip, secretary
