Literacy Inspire - 13th October 2016
The main objective of the Inspire session was to improve the children's story writing skills. There are a variety of websites below that can help the children to improve their story writing skills.
Do you like writing? You can create your own story here.
Click on 'next'. Then choose a fairy story, a horror story, or a science fiction story. Wait for the story maker to load, then answer the questions - choose the characters, words and places or write your own! Then the story maker will 'make' your story - you can print it too!
This great story writing game for kids will help teach children how to create the right atmosphere when planning stories based around a chosen topic. Use the correct words to create an atmosphere suitable for a ghost story, spy story or romance. What words help create a spooky atmosphere? How about a spy thriller? Choose your theme and use the tips provided to help write your sentences. Enjoy learning how to write stories with the help of this fun, interactive activity that’s perfect for students.
The Story Map interactive includes a set of graphic organizers designed to assist teachers and students in prewriting and post reading activities. The organizers are intended to focus on the key elements of character, setting, conflict, and resolution development. Students can develop multiple characters, for example, in preparation for writing their own fiction, or they may reflect on and further develop characters from stories they have read. After completing individual sections or the entire organizer, students have the ability to print out their final versions for feedback and assessment. The versatility of this tool allows it to be used in multiple contexts.
Story Starters inspire students to write by serving up hundreds of writing prompts in creative combinations.
Ready to get students excited about writing? Scholastic's Story Starters serves up hundreds of creative combinations that take the writer’s block out of creative writing for students. Plus, it is now available for iPad!
Set young writers loose with prompts that explore the themes of Adventure, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi. Or choose Scrambler, for random word combinations. Story Starters gives ideas for character, plot, and setting. If you want to change your writing prompt, pull the lever and it will serve up a new prompt, either piece-by-piece or all at once.
